DUNHOLME CAMERA CLUB
Competition Guidelines and Rules (approved January 2008)

ELIGIBILITY
Only club members, without subscription arrears, will be permitted to enter club competitions or external competitions on behalf of the club

A print or digital image that has been placed 1st or 2nd, in any club competition, may not be entered in the same competition in subsequent years.

All entries must be the sole work of the author.

Colour or monochrome work may be entered in any competition, each judged on its own merits.

SCORES and AWARDS
All prints and digital images will be given individual scores between 0 and 20.
In each competition for each section there will awarded based on highest scores an awarded place of 1st, 2nd, Highly Commended, and two Commended. In the event of a points tie the presiding judge for the competition shall have final say.

Photographer of the Year points will be awarded as follows:-
All points awarded for club competitions entered during the 12 months commencing 1st January will be aggregated for each member to produce a total points score. The member with the highest aggregated points score will be Photographer of the Year. In the event of a tie the Photographer of the Year will be awarded jointly.

SUBMISSIONS
The presentation quality of entries could be taken into account by the judge.

Entrance to competitions is via entry forms, obtainable form the Competition Committee members. The maximum number of entries, is THREE per section. List your entries in order of preference. The Competition Secretary reserves the right to delete entries form the bottom of your entry form, if the overall number of entries is excessive.

Competition sections include Monochrome prints, Colour prints and Digital Images. Under certain circumstances one or more of these sections may be omitted for a given competition, in which case members will be advised of the permitted sections at least 4 weeks in advance of the competition.

Images have a Club/LPA competition life span of 5 years, after the date the work is first shown.

Members submitting prints or digital images for external competitions or exhibitions on behalf of Dunholme Camera Club must name, title and label their work, including “Dunholme Camera Club”. NB Labels are available from the Competition Secretary.

All submissions must be accompanied by a completed competition entry form.

PRINT SUBMISSIONS
Prints must be mounted on a suitable mount card, (max size:- 20” x 16” comprising print and the mount).

The author’s full name and the title, with the first entry date, must be on the back of the mount.

Prints may be trade processed.

Prints produced using Digital imaging techniques may be entered in any competition providing the original images has been produced using a camera (film, video, digital).

DIGITAL SUBMISSIONS
Digital images may be entered in competitions providing the original image has been produced using a camera (film, video, digital).

Images may be colour or mono

The only accepted format of the image will be JPEG. The image files MUST have a .JPG extension

The title of the image file must be same as the (short) title of the submission only and must not signify the author’s identity.

In the event of 2 digital images being submitted for the same competition with the same title the competition secretary shall prefix the name of the image file with an incremental number (1,2,3 etc).

A completed competition entry form must be provided with the images and this should clearly list image name and author

Digital image files can be provided on
USB pocket storage device
Flash memory cards (CF, SD, or XD)
Compact Disk (CD)
DVD
All files and media must be readable using a standard windows PC.
NB: Digital competition entries cannot be made via email

The MAXIMUM size of the digital image file must not exceed 2MB
The MINIMUM size of the digital image file must not be less than 300K
The longest side of the digital image should be between 1000 and 3500 pixels

For optimum results the following settings are suggested
Image file size 1.5 – 2MB
Working colour space: Adobe RGB
Resolution: 200 – 300 dpi







Annex A

A. APPLIED PRINTS AND DIGITAL IMAGES

Architecture:
Buildings, or major parts of buildings, showing the main fabric.

Natural History:
Plant or animal life in its natural surroundings. ‘PLANT’ includes trees, flowers, fungi and lichens etc. ‘ANIMAL’, includes birds, reptiles, fish, insects etc.
NB For external competitions only, the full Latin title will be required.

Record:
Details of buildings tombs, statues, carvings, not part of the main fabric. Cultivated or domestic plants and animals. Natural history subjects removed from there natural habitat. Man made objects in art, science or industry. Sport, including motor racing. Photojournalism, ie a photograph which supports a newspaper article. Geology.

B.PICTORIAL PRINTS AND DIGITAL IMAGES

Derivative:
A image or print made generally by digital or traditional photographic processes. Exaggerated tones, colours, or shapes not usually accepted as true representations of the subject photographed.

Portraiture:
A likeness in which the characteristics and personality of the subject are effectively presented.

Pictorial:
A personal statement conveying; emotion, mood, or meaning greater than that which would be obtained in a simple record.

Landscape/Seascape:
A wide view or vista of natural scenery or scenery modified by man, eg, an industrial landscape.
